I’m a firm believer that what gets made easy, gets done. That’s why I’m going to show you step-by-step in this simple, easy-to-follow guide how to jailbreak your own PlayStation 4 in just a matter of minutes.

Fire up your PlayStation 4 and your PC. We’re about to jailbreak your system together. This guide supports all models of the PlayStation 4, including the original, slim, and pro models. While this guide is specific to version 9.00 of the official system software, you can also jailbreak consoles on lower versions of the system software as well.

Along with your computer and your PlayStation 4, you’ll also need a USB-A drive that’s at least 2GB in size. You’ll need something to write onto that USB drive, and that’s where this GitHub page comes in. I have it linked for you in the video description.

Here’s the deal. It’s not obvious where the download link is for the .img file that you need. It’s actually this link that’s called View Raw. Click on this link and it will download the .img file to your computer.

You’ll need a way to write that .img file to your USB drive, and that’s where Balena Etcher comes in. It’s a free download, and I have it linked for you in the description. Click the big green download button in the center of the website. The first link in the download section is an installer file for both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows. To grab the file, click the download link shown here at the end of the highlighted text.

To get started with the image writing process on your USB drive, go ahead and insert it into your computer. It really doesn’t make any difference what file format the drive is in. It’s going to be overwritten by the image file in just a moment.

Once the File Explorer window pops up for your USB drive, you can simply close it out by clicking on the red X button in the top right corner of File Explorer.

To use Balena Etcher, you’ll need to install the program to your computer. Right-click on File Explorer and select your downloads folder. From here, you’ll see the .exe file for Balena Etcher’s installer. Double-click on the file to start the installation process.

This might be the easiest installer in the history of installation of software. All you have to do is come down to the bottom corner and click on the I Agree button, and Balena Etcher will be installed to your system. The program will also automatically be launched immediately after installation.

The first thing you’ll need to do inside the program is select the file that you want to flash over to your USB drive. In this case, it’s going to be the .img file that you previously downloaded from the GitHub. Go to the blue highlight where it says Flash from File and click on it to select it.

From inside your downloads folder, click on the .img file that you downloaded from the GitHub. Then click on the Open button in the bottom right corner to continue.

Next up, you’ll be asked for the target drive where you want to write this .img file. Navigate up to the blue highlight that says Select Target and click on it. From here, you’ll see a list of connected drives. In this case, I don’t want to pick the 4TB drive. That’s for backup purposes. I want to select the 8GB drive that I have plugged in. Click on the drive that matches the USB drive you want to write that image file to. Then click on the blue Select button down in the bottom right corner to lock in the change.

To start the writing process of the image file to your USB drive, click the blue Flash button. Then, at the UAC prompt that appears, click on Yes to continue.

What’s really awesome about this process is it only takes about 10 seconds or so in real time. In fact, in the time that it takes me to tell you that it takes about 10 seconds for the process to complete, the process is done. Pretty cool, huh?

Since this is the only drive you need to write, you’re done with Balena Etcher. Go up to the top right corner and click on the red X button to close out the software. You’re not going to need the installer .exe file nor the blank .img file in your Downloads folder any longer. To get rid of them, right-click on File Explorer, then select your Downloads folder. Highlight both of the files in the Downloads folder, right-click, and then select Delete. And remember, anything that you delete is still archived for you in your Recycle Bin should you need it.

That’s everything you need to do with your PC. You can transition over to your PlayStation 4 for the remainder of the guide.

Let’s check some key settings on your PlayStation 4 to get things ready for the jailbreak process. From the Home menu of your PS4, use the D-pad to move up to the top navigation ribbon. Once you’re there, use the D-pad to scroll over to the right until you
